Overview of the business
Since 1995, Consortium Kyoto has been holding an annual FD forum with the themes of (1) dissemination of FD activities, (2) providing practical and research reports on university education and class improvement and providing opportunities for human exchange, and (3) disseminating information on FD activities in Kyoto, with the aim of raising awareness of FD among university faculty and staff and contributing to the improvement of university education. It is one of the largest FD events in Japan with many university faculty members and educators from all over Japan.

On March 3~4, 2018, the 23rd FD Forum: Past and Future of FD – Thinking about FD from Various Angles" was held at Kyoto Sangyo University.
Ten years have passed since FD became mandatory in 2007 under the University Establishment Standards, and each university has made efforts to respond to the obligation and improve educational capabilities by holding FD workshops, open classes, and conducting class questionnaires.
During this period, active learning has spread at an accelerated pace, educational IR that collects and analyzes a wide range of information related to education and learning, not limited to class questionnaires, and the three policies and quality assurance, etc., have become important themes when considering FD, and the concept of FD itself is expanding.
This symposium was held as an opportunity to pause, sort out what kind of results have been achieved by "FD so far" and what remains as an issue, and think about how to develop "FD in the future" and what kind of university education we are trying to achieve, and was held with the participation of 651 people from 249 universities and institutions nationwide.
On the first day, four speakers gave presentations from different perspectives: Mr. Takeshi Hayashi (Assistant Director, University Promotion Division, Higher Education Bureau, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology), Mr. Hiroshi Umemoto (President, Kyoto Tachibana Gakuen), Mr. Hiroaki Sato (Associate Professor, Education and Learning Support Department, Institute for the Promotion of General Education, Osaka University), and Ms. Tomoko Mori (Professor, Education Promotion Department, Kansai University). In the panel and group discussions that followed, lively discussions were held between the speakers and participants in a participatory manner at the venue.
On the second day, 12 subcommittees were held on themes of great interest to university educators. At the "Poster Session," which exhibited a total of 16 "educational practice cases" from 12 member universities of the Consortium of Kyoto, which was held at the same time, many participants stopped to listen to the explanation of the person in charge and actively asked questions.
